ABOUT US

Director Cory Ybarra traveled to Tanzania Africa as a volunteer in 2005.  She has a degree in Health Science with an emphasis in education and she is the mother of a young adult, Joaquin, who is challenged with Down Syndrome.  The idea for Building for Generations began after she raised the money to complete a special needs unit in Tanzania.

During her visit there she sought out children with varying disabilities and visited a severely overcrowded classroom.  The class had been allocated a piece of land on which they could build but were told they would have to raise the money.

Through fundraising in the U.S. and in partnership with Softpower Education, Naurei Specials Needs Education Unit was completed in March 2006.

A three classroom block, wheelchair ramp and teachers office was contructed at a total cost of $18,000.  September 2006 vocational training began.  Naurei now provides instruction to 44 children and young adults with capacity for 20 more.

Cory has now been joined on her Board of Directors by Ms. Willa Dawson, retired professor and Licensed MFCC and Ms. Patricia Porter, pioneer in the field of drug treatment programs and recipient of both the Governor's Award and Woman of Achievement Award.

Plans for 2007 include the building of a completely equipped dining hall/community room for Naurei. The addition of this facility will provide revenue to the unit and keep them self sustained since it can be rented for events in the community.  We also will be looking for a project in Peru during a spring visit to the country.
